Book of Life

Book of Life is a no-holds-barred memoir that charts the rise and fall – and rise – of one of Australia’s most iconic music performers.

You think you know Deborah Conway? You think seeing her striding and scowling down Sydney’s back streets in an oversize coat or galavanting around a golf course wearing a close approximation of plus fours means you know who Deborah Conway is? She figures you probably don’t know the half of it. And there’s a lot to know.

Deborah’s memoir Book of Life, is published by Allen & Unwin.

Songs From The Book of Life is a work of musical theatre written by Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier, based around her memoir Book of Life, a shimmering piece of autobiography told in eight scenes, around eight songs with Conway and Zygier exploring the nature of performing, a musical life, the notions of what people know and don’t know about a career lived over four decades in public.

Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier play themselves (mostly) as they go back through their own story of youth, rebellion, falling in love, aging, money and music; the dirty details of one of the most powerful and iconic women who rocked the Australian music industry. Songs From the Book of Life is a bold tour-de-force told with unflinching honesty, humour, revelation, and a reflexive desire to let it all hang out.

Directed by Michael Kantor, set design Chloe Greaves, video design Nick Roux, lighting design Stephen Hawker, sound design Siiri Metsar and choreography Stephanie Lake.
